World Trip Reports

Article on a 'world lister' in Saturday's Telegraph Magazine

Interesting article about Richard Koeppel and his exploits to see the world's birds in the Telegraph Magazine. He had seen over 7,000 species when struck down with cancer and heart failure. It tells also how his birding destroyed his marriage and compromised his career. He kept meticulous notes and drawings and his son has written a book, to be published 4 August, called.....'To See Every Bird On Earth'.

The Telegraph piece reckons that Phoebe Snetsinger spent $2million to reach 8400+ and that the vast majority of this cost was on the last 500. (The 'cost per bird' is also part of the article = costs go up for diminishing returns).

And he probably can't even remember what most of the birds looked like any more

Yeah, for me seeing all near-identical Empidonax flycatchers and leaf warblers would be a nightmare.
