World Trip Reports

Argentina - Sep/Oct 2008

Hi,

The trip report can be found HERE.

Summary
An 18 day trip to eastern Argentina including a week in Buenos Aires, two days in Chubut Province and several days in Iguazú NP with a drive back to Buenos Aires via the Iberá Marshes. This was my first trip to Argentina so plenty of lifers on the total trip list of 336 species. Unfortunately as north-eastern Argentina was experiencing a drought, missed some of the commoner species (Black-necked Swan!) as Costanera Sur was bone dry. A fantastic country with a great variety of birds!

Birding Highlights:
-Jabiru: 2 in the Iberá Marshes
-Chubut/White-headed Steamerduck: 4 at Punta Tombo
-Black-fronted Piping-Guan: At least three in Iguazú NP
-Common Potoo: One singing at close range in Iguazú NP
-Plovercrest: One female in Iguazú NP
-Rusty-backed Monjita: Several on the Valdes Peninsula

Interesting report and photographs, thanks. I especially liked the photograph of the 88 butterfly!
