Ardnamurchan and Mull September 2007



Here's a quick summary of the highlights from a two week holiday to Ardnamurchan with a couple of day trips to Mull and a stop en route in Dumfries and Galloway. I'll try and add more details/field questions when time/work allows

A probable Gyr Falcon on Mull
Cory's and Balearic Shearwater (subject to acceptance by records
committee)

120 Buzzards - gave up counting
10 Red Kites
5 Sparrowhawks
5 Peregrines
3 Merlins
8 Kestrels
5 Hen Harriers
6 White-tailed Eagles
15 Golden Eagles
80 Manx Shearwaters
5 Red-throated Divers
2 Great Northern Divers
23 pale-bellied Brent Geese
45 Pinkfeet
6 Fieldfares
Dozens of stonechats - obviously a very good breeding season
2 Wheatears

2 wildcats including one watched for a minute at a range of 6 feet!
Pine Marten
red squirrel
red deer
feral goats
grey and common seals
6 otters
4-5 basking sharks
minke whale
common lizard

[sarcasm/on]Yes, really awful holiday {sarcasm off]

Sorry, there are no pix I was too busy taking notes should there ever be a second edition of my book. I decided years ago that all my pictures were rubbish - too many shots of birds just having flown away so decided to spend all my money on bird books instead of cameras and look at someone else's pictures. There are times though when I think that I really must take it up again.
