World Trip Reports

Another Very rare one In our gallery!

PINK PIGEON by Dave Smith

The latin name for The Pink Pigeon is Columba mayeri . Apparently in 1985 the World population was down to 15 to 20 birds, but with a great conservation effort by the Mauritian Wldlife Foundation it stands at about 320 (Aug 2002). It is resricted to wet, upland forests in the SW corner of Mauritius. Dave managed to see two individuals.

Taken in Mauritius last year.

Very nice shot of a very different bird. Thanks!

Pretty in Pink. That is a lovely photo. It is so great to see picks of rare birds and birds I would not have a chance to meet if not for the time members give to share their own personal photos. Really, it is such a special thing to do
