Hey guys,
So back in January I moved into a new place in Towson (collegetown-type suburb of Baltimore). Absolutely LOVING my house, and now that I have a dog, picking out one with a good yard was part of my search. Nothing super-special so far, just the usual suspects. I'm hoping to do some birdscaping for next spring. Here's my yard list so far, in no particular order (besides thumbing through Sibley):
1. Canada Goose (flyover)
2. Turkey Vulture (flyover)
3. Cooper's Hawk
4. Ring-billed Gull (flyover)
5. Mourning Dove
6. Rock Pigeon
7. Chimney Swift (flyover)
8. Blue Jay
9. American Crow
10. Fish Crow
11. American Robin (nesting)
12. Gray Catbird (nesting)
13. European Starling
14. Cedar Waxwing
15. Northern Cardinal
16. Song Sparrow
17. Brown-headed Cowbird
18. Common Grackle
19. House Sparrow (nesting)
Species that I've PROBABLY seen from my yard, but can't recall specific encounters in the making of this list, are below. I'm a stickler and will add them when I get the official sightings:
Red-tailed Hawk
Woodpeckers? Probably Downy and Red-bellied
Tufted Titmouse
Carolina Chickadee
White-breasted Nuthatch
Carolina Wren
Northern Mockingbird
Chipping Sparrow
Dark-eyed Juncos (almost positive this winter - post/mid-Snowpocalypse)
American Goldfinch
20. Northern Mockingbird. One hanging out this morning. I knew there was one, but when I started seeing the nesting catbirds in my yard I thought maybe I'd been hearing them.
21. Downy Woodpecker.
22. American Goldfinch.
