A week in Provence, 21-28 April 2007

I've recently returned from a week's holiday in the south of France. Given the limitations of a 16 month old daughter and a wife who is not particularly interested in birds, early morning starts and long days of birding were never going to be on the cards, and in any case it was meant to be a relaxing break. However, while it was not a birding holiday, I still managed to fit in a few sites and see a reasonable number of interesting species, including 4 additions to my life list.

I'll try to describe the sites as we visited them through the week, and for those who don't know the area, there is a map here which shows the location of the main sites.

We flew with Air France from Aberdeen to Marseille via Paris, returning with KLM via Amsterdam. We had pre-booked car hire from Marseille Airport for the week and stayed at a Gite (booked on the ‘Gites-de-France’ website) near the village of Molleges, to the east of St. Remy-de-Provence.
