As I am sure you know, 80,000 people lost their lives when the 8.0 magnitude quake struck Sichuan province on 12 May 2008 - the epicentre was in Wenchuan (not far from the area that many birdwatchers have visited).
I could easily have been there, but as luck would have it, I decided to go there in 2007, not 2008.
Exactly one year before, to the minute, I had just checked in to my room at the Wolong Hotel; and was preparing to go out to look for Golden Pheasants (which were very often seen just behind the hotel).
There but for the grace of God...
The reconstruction work continues - rebuilding lives as well as property.
The British Red Cross Sichuan earthquake appeal is working to make life that bit less difficult for the survivors.
